• About Me

    Hi, I’m Maowei Sun.

A bridging point between global business operations and intercultural communication.

Welcome to my corner of the internet! If I had to summarize my professional journey in one sentence, it would be this: I love figuring out how things work, and more importantly, how people from completely different backgrounds can work together to make things happen.

My career didn’t start in a typical office setting. For several years, I worked as a Regional Manager across Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. In the Middle East, business is deeply rooted in personal relationships and trust. My daily reality involved much more than just managing B2B sales; it was about navigating highly complex, high-context cultural environments. I spent my days aligning diverse teams across Riyadh and Dubai, negotiating with local partners, and digging into operational data to restructure our cross-border logistics.

It was during this time that I realized something crucial: the success of any global project—whether it’s optimizing a shipping cycle or launching a new product—always comes down to human communication.

This profound fascination with the “why” behind human interaction led me to make a major life change. I decided to step out of my commercial comfort zone, pack my bags, and move from the deserts of the Middle East to the canals of the Netherlands.

Currently, I am pursuing my M.A. in Intercultural Communication at Utrecht University. Here, I am combining my frontline business experience with rigorous academic research. I spend my time analyzing digital narratives, understanding online group behaviors, and studying how culturally sensitive communication can build trust across borders.
